Welcome, I’m Emily.

I adore my Golden Retriever, Knox (pictured here as a puppy). I value and cherish the ability to connect with other beings.

I believe therapy can be revolutionary. Breaking cycles of intergenerational trauma, practicing self-advocacy in situations of injustice, addressing how you contribute to harmful relationship patterns and embracing your authentic self can transform not only your life, but also the lives of loved ones, our communities and society as a whole.

I view the world through a lens of intersectionality. I consider the impact of various oppressions and privileges in each individual’s life, based both on personal identity and how power is distributed in our world. I recognize the potential for fluidity in identity, and I celebrate difference, nuance and change.

I respect and affirm trans*, non-binary, and gender expansive people. In my intake paperwork I ask clients if they would like to share their pronouns with me. My pronouns are she/her and they/them.

I respect and affirm people of all sexualities, including ace/aro individuals. I am kink aware and I have specialized training and experience working with clients in nonmonogamous, poly and open relationships.

I practice antiracism. I intentionally identify, and attempt to interrupt, systemic, interpersonal and internalized racism that emerges in therapy. As a white therapist, I seek training, supervision and evaluation of my practice to identify my own areas of bias and growth.

I have over fifteen years experience working in mental and community health, and over five years of clinical experience working as a marriage and family therapist.

I speak up in unjust situations. I practice cultural humility and curiosity.

I attended Lewis & Clark’s Graduate School of Education and Counseling. In 2019, I obtained a Master of Arts in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy. I interned at Firefly Institute for Research and Education in Hillsboro, and for the Lewis & Clark Community Counseling Clinic in Portland.

Before graduate school, I worked at a rural nonprofit doing case management and health coaching in my community. Through home-based assessments, I helped elders and their caregivers to promote wellness while managing diabetes and other chronic illnesses.

In my hometown, Minneapolis, I spent several years as a program supervisor and counselor in intensive residential treatment. I worked with adolescents who had complex trauma and had grown accustomed to using self-harm behaviors to cope with emotional pain. I collaborated with clinicians, nurses and a psychiatrist to develop and implement DBT treatment plans for youth and their families.

After I received my BA in sociology from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, I worked as a wilderness educator. I was a lead counselor of a program for youth with attention-related disorders. I also facilitated multi-day group empowerment excursions on the Appalachian Trail.

I love getting to know the clients I work with, and I’m honored to be part of your journeys of healing, connection and transformation. Let’s talk and see if we are a good fit!
